TITANIUM USED FOR JEWELRY IS AVAILABLE IN COMMERCIALLY PURE GRADES AND ALLOYED GRADES.
ONLY GRADES 1 THRU 4 ARE COMMERCIALLY PURE (CP) ELEMENTAL TITANIUM... all other grades of Titanium are alloyed.
MEDICAL/SURGICAL GRADES OF TITANIUM ARE GRADES 5 & 23 and are alloyed with 6% aluminum and 4% vanadium
GRADE 1 PURE TITANIUM is
the least hard of the 4 pure grades and responds to the forming and
shaping of wire and sheet metal with hand tools, which allows for the
range of skill levels seen in handmade titanium jewelry. example: spiral post earrings
GRADES 2, 5, & 23 TITANIUM earrings are machine milled from solid Titanium bar and will stand up to more abuse. example: ball post earrings
NOTE: Grade
2 PURE TITANIUM earrings are becoming harder to find. If titanium earrings are marketed as "Pure or Solid Titanium" and do not say Grade 2...they are most likely alloyed.
I OFFER ONLY COMMERCIALLY PURE ELEMENTAL TITANIUM EARRINGS
While most metal sensitive people respond well to grades 5 & 23 Titanium, grades 1 & 2 PURE Titanium eliminates potential or hidden alloy triggers for extremely allergic ears that do not heal.
